oh man OH man oh MAN!!!
i became an owner of my very own harness today! oh mannnn
now super duper excited to try it on while leading.
my very own!
=D =D =DDD
i had a pretty good birthday(:
esp. considering the timing this year.
before engaging in the oh-so-exciting task of studying for next week's paper,
i had lunch with Reg and Jud after their (gd! yea!) paper this morning; V, Jiawei anddd ZX (yes, Canada ZX! hahaha..) joined us too at munchie monkey's
around midnight plus our room was visited (and at the same time i was chastised for my ultimate pinkness plus messiness) by okr fellows brian ken hh yixiang jansen + fel who helpfully brought snacks-for-studying which somehow included a persimmon; certainly not smtg u rcv everyday
before that Jud had given me a lovely little wooden scrapbook she made herself which i can't stop flipping through - it's like holding a handful of prettiness - that i had to put it off my desk in order for me not to keep picking it back up and looking through again!
i feel like i'm gonna spend my time holding and playing with my presents instead of studying uh-oh!! ^..^
last last night too we celebrated marisa's birthday which was the day itself and mine too although for 2 days later (: at vivo marche and many many people came because next day's hari raya haji (public holiday) so it was a great excuse to take the evening off! there were so many of us the lady got flustered trying to seat us all and eventually we almost occupied the whole inside section with the big tables by ourselves (well three-fifths of it maybe). i loved the ROSTI of cos with tons of cream, and Reg, Ken and i later shared dessert which was a "super super sour ice-cream" (R.Huang, 2009) raspberry flavor and mango fruit slices on top of sweet crepe with marscapone sauce YUMMMMY and fun to eat cos the ice-cream was so saliva-inducing. hahaha ok tt din sound so good, but it was
when i went home (after missing a weekend home for the joy of studying) linda excitedly presented a cheese mousse cake with mixed berries jam which the little girl was so proud of. w 5 almost-out candles by the time i reached the table cos linda insisted on my walking all the way down with my eyes shut when i reli wouldnt hv been able to see a thing anw since i was walking in the opposite direction -..- then we did the usual family activity of watching whatever's on tv till we fell asleep. haha

midst of exams now(: (smiley because midst = oncoming end!)
2 papers done on monday, 1 tmr. all PS left (ULS was first paper)
studying for tmr's paper now: international relations.
something funny-ish i realized about the different theorists and schools of thought that have developed:
.1 There's always the prevailing one that's supported by the superpower and that upon studying we realize (in an oops! sort of way) we subconsciously actually "believe" / adhere to (eg. econ liberalism.. adam smith.. j.m. keynes..);
.2 Then there's the most viable alternative / most taken-seriously argument that hasn't managed to "rule the world" but not for the lack of trying real hard (eg. mercantilism.. 4 asian tiger.. governance as missing jigsaw piece);
.3 and THEN there's all these naughty, rebel theories that go against everything and tend to be very narrow and specific about particular biases held by the theorist or certain issues he/she's interested in (eg. fukuyama, huntington, i duno where to put marx but some parts of it are amusing so i'll place it here i guess).
the naughty ones tickle me sometimes =)
and since prolly noone else found that amusing except for me, here's one to tickle you! (which part of V is not unglam?)

Darn looks like it'll be a 5-day week next sem =(
I was THIS close to the possibility of a 3-day week; matter of one tut slot that wouldnt budge.
I hope I get them.. Else messed up. Worried for USP mods, after throwing my points at BioD earlier this sem.
UQR2202 Uncertainty (Stats)
UNL2204 Birth, Life, Death of Stars (Astronomy/Physics/Smtg i know zero about)
PS2242 Public Policy Making (Public Admin requirement)
PS3249 Singapore Foreign Policy (+CBM?)
PS3257 Political Inquiry (Method)
Well. Other things to deal with now.. Exams for one. Term papers for another. Flunking this sem for yet another which im not supposed to be thinking about but the more i will myself not to think about it the more i do. Well done.

warning: geek humour ahead.
at 12.40am i typed "china democracy" (yes, ha.ha. back) into Wiley database and found, upon scrolling down the page, an article/book entitled "GIRLS GROWING UP IN LATE VICTORIAN AND EDWARDIAN ENGLAND. By Carol Dyhouse"
O.o <- my face.
like err... relevance?
guess sometimes even the Internet needs a caffeine perk to function.

in class today, my prof lol-ed and shared with us about how when students were allowed to pick a topic completely of their choice as long as it was related to the module, "only at nus do you get" most of the students in the entire class handing in term papers on a range of just 4 or 5 topics.
1. "only at nus" is funny; half the class are exchange students. so they're nus students now?
2. this is a european politics class. most of the singaporean students in your class dear prof have been exposed to close to zero academic teaching on europe as a subject area. this. is. our. first. time. and. we. know. NUTS. (ya sure pls proceed here to gloat about how little singaporeans know about europe and its politics) no amount of right-here-right-now frantic reading of texts on european politics can come close to replacing knowledge obtained from exposure to this subject throughout the course of pre-tertiary education (once again, see: close to zero)
3. there's this idea about the singaporean character being mostly play-safe, narrow-minded, uncreative, rule-abiding, conservative. which if im not mistaken my prof was eluding to. i dont disagree. but hey they're rich. and we have health care. and retirement savings. and safe streets. and opportunities. and oh, they're rich. may not be the sharpest most exciting conversationalists, but one of the most loaded ones.. what do you have? oh yea the freedom to do whatever you want including mess up ur own and ur family's lives, drive urself into debt, kill the environment and try to bully your ideology onto weaker states.
sure she's smart and funny, but you know how sometimes smart-and-funny people say the most obnoxious things? there you go (she just did, and i just tried to but failed due to personal deficiencies in those 2 areas oh well my bad. and, this was a waste of time i better get back to my wonderful chinese politics now)

time for perspectivising(:
might as well, since my attention has been slightly off-centre in the recent while.
finals:
1. ps2236: whole syllabus, lect notes mostly in order and straightforward, content-heavy
2. ps2237: last part of syllabus, concepts in disarray, got hope = work on this
3. ps2248: whole syllabus, lousy unconsolidated notes, hugest set of (see unconsolidated again) readings like, ever
4. ps2250: loose and unconsolidated entire module, prof provided extremely useful exam tips last sem im hopinggg he does it again but there hasnt been lect for 2 weeks now so
5. uls2204: straightforward, content-heavy, everyone will own so better work ass off just to be afloat
6. ge3235: pretty-much-dead mod, been totally disengaged, concepts in disarray, hvn't figured out how to handle
there we are.
con: here in 2 weeks. (half empty)
pro: over in less than 4 (half full)
