suffering.

“I will do whatever I have to - robbery, killing others or blowing myself up - if my children are hungry and I cannot give them food,” said one middle-aged man in the southern province of Kandahar.
-IRIN.

Reprimand him:
1. Logically, if you can't give them food while you're alive, how much better will you fare if you're dead? At least while you're alive you can provide hope, love, courage and other intangible things that are frequently underrated but are food for the soul. Of course, as they say hope doesn't fill a stomach, but will its absence do any better?

2. Coward. Putting his misery over that of his family.

3. Hurting others to lessen your own burden? Thief. (Kite Runner: There is only one sin, and that is Theft.)

More importantly,
Reprimand the rest:
1. To us, life's about pay rise / no pay rise, this uni / that uni, pass exam /fail exam, call this guy / don't call him... For them, it is literally between life and death... And yet we so easily close them out of our minds, going about our daily chores as we do - how many of us even spare a breath of prayer (how much does that take?) to the less fortunate, even as we beg to be prettier / lighter / smarter / luckier / blessed etc. etc. etc.

2. Imagine the extent of a man's suffering, that he is willing to die so as not to feel that way; so as not to face every day; so as not to live his life? Think of all the things that YOU have to live for; of your opportunities aplenty. Spare a tiny thought for him, and many many many others, who have none.

3. What are you, able members of the human community, doing to alleviate such pain and misery? It takes the same amount of discomfort, time and effort for you to donate online to a worthy foundation, as it does to check your facebook/friendster/myspace profile.
