Volunteering with Reg for the Sg grand prix race ambassadors program was jolt of consciousness for us on 1. the true kiasu-ness of our country's unrelenting aunties and 2. the workings of goodie bag giveaways - cum - "lucky" prize giveaways. Ah i cant decide if my putting lucky in inverted commas is really warranted; i guess it depends on whether you consider fitting a particular type or demographic (eg. young, male, modern, middle-class-looking) that the ppl from stb were looking for as "lucky" or "biased". for sure im all for withholding race or concert tickets from the aunties who unabashedly come forward multiple times to get more goodie bags and (so they think) increasing their chances of winning
something ,
anything (i bet they din even know what the prizes were)... but i guess the experience just kinda scrapped away the layer of my naivety about these "lucky" giveaways.
