what i learnt from CEOs of start-ups

in the last week of my nrf internship, i interviewed founders and ceos of several start-up companies, for quotes to put in the press release that i was (am still) drafting. i've never really been interested in business and did not used to see the draw of setting up one's own company from scratch... with all the risks, capital and uncertainty involved.

working on this release and meeting up with these people has meant that i can never say i don't get it again. i've actually found it pretty admirable that many of them feel passionately about the work they do, and this makes their job mean so much more to them than boring days, unreasonable demands from unreasonable bosses and a paycheck every month. these people are themselves invested in what they do, and i imagine that i) they don't have a problem dragging themselevs to work and ii) whatever happens down the road to the companies that they've set up, they won't look back and call their endeavour a mistake 'cos it's been such a part of who they are, and part of their own personal growth.

it could be that i'm just getting ahead of myself, romanticising the idea of starting your own business, and i'm sure there are as many if not more misses than there've been hits... afterall, the people i spoke to are from companies that have recently received a good deal of support and backing so i'm sure their feeling pretty psyched and pleased with everything right now, but i'm sure the guys had their sleepless nights before, pondering the future of their businesses. i guess nothing ventured, nothing gained... but then, every venture has its risks and potential to fail flat on its face.
