she removed her post later, but it had already been captured. someone reported the incident to the elections department. the elections department, which is not an independent body, falls under the purview of the prime minister's office which is helmed by the prime minister who heads the party which tinpeiling is representing. go figure.
1. style-wise, i realize that politics isn't pretty, but a candidate resorting to what seems to me an opportunistic, un-thought-out, frivolous personal attack - and a poorly calculated one at that - just showcases, for me, her level of (im)maturity. i had been willing to give her the benefit of the doubt when she first came out with those "universal studios" and "cheap education/healthcare" comments, thinking that people were using her as a lightning rod for their general angst against the ruling party. then when nicoleseah came out and people were making comparisons between the two i tried to avoid it, determined to consider the two as separate individuals, on their own terms. over the days from watching the rally speeches, while no love was lost (or gained) for tinpeiling, i found myself developing a respect for nicoleseah. i feel that her poise, maturity and leadership potential unfolded nicely in the whole campaign period. earlier today i finally 'liked' her on FB.
2. substance-wise, i happen to actually have been moved ten times more by any of nicoleseah's speeches than the best of tinpeiling's (or an infinity times more, technically, since tpl's speeches moved me none). the sense i've gotten from nicoleseah's speeches, in that straight-talking manner of hers, which includes the speech in question, is that she has so much more potential as an MP than tinpeiling. she certainly exudes more sincerity and conviction than tpl who sounded more like she was regurgigating a clinically-written script. maybe it was this threat that motivated tinpeiling to excitedly grasp at the opportunity to try to smart talk against nicoleseah, and i'm just saying that i'm not impressed at all.
more on nicoleseah, from that incident i think either she's a really good actress or she genuinely cares. if i were a gambling person, i would bet on the latter. i think we might get the answer after this elections period cos i have a feeling nicoleseah will still be in the limelight and people will be looking to see if she's serious and what's she's doing and all, and if PAP wins MP tmr (the yucky feeling in my gut guesses they will) i really hope to see her again in the next elections. fielded strategically, of course.
and... you know... just for the record... kicking a person when they're down is not. cool. at. all. have a heart man.
