Why do I spend almost 2 hours every week (that's like lecture hours per week) watching the x factor usa when it is such a spectacle what with the judges throwing snide comments for, most times it seems, the sake of simply getting one up on each other? It's almost a circus, and this coming from someone who does enjoy witnessing snide a little too much - but only when it's occasion for it I guess (like in a sitcom or over whose line is it anyway maybe?). The problem with the x factor though, is I get that they were trying something distinct to differentiate the show and what not, but the prolonged judge-mentoring thing and bickering between the judges is not just distracting from the talent but as this week's episode showed, can be inadvertently hurtful. Besides, I loved Drew's dress the moment the light shined on it and am really impressed that she designed it herself. Why can't people just be nice!!
And yet. I keep calm and watch on.
Acts I loved this week; Rachel & Astro. Acts that were pleasant surprises; Lakoda & Chris. Still think Melanie's got an amazing voice (I've a personal bias for the diva types) but pitch-perfectness somehow tends not to actually win these competitions :-/
On another note, a couple of cool scenes on the death penalty from the practice. Which I miss, now that I'm getting high doses of medical drama and naught in legal drama :(
