avery point campus outing

We took a 45 minute bus ride (we rode in an american public school bus, yes the yellow ones) down to the UConn Avery Point regional campus today - it's absolutely beautiful and doesn't feel like a school even! the backyard is literally made up of a beach and bay (an estuary) and place where the yachts dock (i duno what it's called). we also took a boat ride atop the university-owned (well the university owns an island there too so.) boat down to some where around Long Island and actually helped trawl the boat and had a hand in data collection that's done to study all things about the ocean. we put the net in & helped pull it out and everything and ended up with some pretty good catches (though they're only used for research, not for eating so that yummy-looking lobster was not for food unfortunately). after the campus we went to Bluff Point to just sit around and relax.. it's part of a state park i think, and near the town of Groton. we were pretty tired from the day's activities by then so we just kinda lazed around the lake.
